What is a T2202?
A T2202 is a tax form that allows students registered in qualifying educational programs to claim eligible tuition amounts paid when completing their personal taxes.
Who is eligible to obtain a T2202?
T2202 forms are issued to students who have paid $100.00 or more in eligible fees for postsecondary level courses / programs beginning and ending in a given calendar year.
To qualify for a T2202 form, a student must be at least 16 years old by the end of the year that they are enrolled in a program at a designated Canadian educational institution.

When and where can I get my T2202?
T2202s are published each year, at end of February, in myStudent Centre.
To view your T2202, follow these instructions:
- Go to myStudent Centre
- In the Finances section, select View my T2202 from the drop-down menu and click on the » button
- At Available PDFs, click on the down arrow and select the appropriate year
- Click on the yellow button, View T2202
The T2202 will not be mailed. To read and print your T2202, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. This browser plug-in can be downloaded from www.adobe.com. Click on “Get Adobe Reader” and follow the instructions for downloading.
Please note: You do NOT need to submit a printed copy of the T2202 form with your tax return, even if you decide to transfer the amount to a parent, grandparent or spouse/common-law partner. You only need a printed copy of your T2202 if one is requested by the Canada Revenue Agency as part of a formal audit.
Why is the amount on my T2202 different from the amount I paid?
The total amount of tuition and fees paid may not match your T2202 because not all tuition and fees are eligible for a tax credit. As well, the T2202 is based on the calendar year (January – December) not the academic year (September – August) that the courses were taken.
How are eligible months determined for my T2202?
The months reported on your T2202 reflect each whole or partial month in the calendar year that you were enrolled as a full-time or part-time student. The determination of part-time and full-time months is based on instructional hours and may not match your status within Sheridan based on your fees paid.
What if I update my Social Insurance Number (SIN) after my T2202 is published?
If you have updated your SIN on file with Sheridan after your T2202 form was published, your T2202 form will be updated and posted to your myStudent Centre account. Updated forms are generated automatically for students who have updated their SIN on file every two weeks. Please continue to monitor your myStudent Centre account if you require an updated T2202 form.
How does my co-op work term impact my T2202?
While enrolled in an academic period, you are considered a student for T2202 purposes. You are not considered a student for T2202 purposes during your co-op work term placement (unless you are enrolled in a course or courses during that time) and the Canada Revenue Agency requires that Sheridan College reports "0" months on your T2202 tax form. I am a student with disabilities enrolled part-time. Can I make a full-time claim?
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) notes that a part-time student is considered a full-time student if they were enrolled in a qualifying education program and are:
- eligible for the disability tax credit; or
- have, in the year, a mental or physical impairment and a medical doctor, a nurse practitioner or a specified individual has certified in writing that the effects of the impairment are such that the student cannot reasonably be expected to be enrolled as a full-time student while so impaired.
Determining eligibility for the Disability Tax Credit is between the CRA and the individual. Institutions do not determine this and as such, cannot make modifications to T2202s to address a student's disability or provide advice or counsel on how to claim the Disability Tax Credit.
What if my tuition was paid by a third-party?
If you were sponsored by a third-party, you must receive a T4A from your sponsor to use your T2202 tax credit.
Why does the system indicate I do not have a T2202 for the tax year?
You will not have a T2202 available if one of the following is true:
- The course you enrolled in did not start in the applicable tax year – the T2202 tax form is based on the calendar year, not on the tuition payment date.
- You did not pay more than $100 in eligible education fees.
- Your study period did not meet the required minimum length.
- The course does not qualify for a tuition tax credit.
Do I need a new T2202 if the address on my form is incorrect?
No. You may submit the T2202 information as received even if the address is incorrect. Sheridan College requires an up-to-date address on file. Learn how to update your Contact Information.
