How do I get a social insurance number (SIN)?

To work in Canada, you need a 9-digit number known as a Social Insurance Number (SIN).

To apply for your SIN, you can either apply online or visit a Service Canada Office. Please visit the Service Canada website to find the office closest to you.

Another possibility is to visit a SIN Clinic on campus. At the beginning of each semester, Service Canada representatives visit our campuses to issue Social Insurance Numbers to new international students.

To find out more about SIN clinics, such as location, dates, and what to bring, please email askanadvisor@sheridancollege.ca or visit the Service Hubs on campus.

Once you have received your SIN, you will need to update this information on your myStudentCentre to ensure you receive your tax forms. Please follow our instructions to securely upload your SIN.
