TRU Start Programs - Future Students | Thompson Rivers University
A lot of details can be found on the application form, which is at the link above.
Also review "TRU Start Process Timeline Internal 2022 2023" word document in sharepoint.
Notes
- No tuition deposit for course or program students but they still have to accept seat.
- Students to talk to TNT counsellor if they have questions about dual credit- we only talk about TRU credit.
- Do not promote to someone doing engineering transfer.
- TNT Coordinator SD 73 collects application package for both programs and course students- then they will be processed by TRU.
-All TRU start students are manually registered- our report will show that they are registered and what they are taking.
Courses
-FSO facilitates while students are still in grade 12. It is possible for grade 11s too, but we don't see this often.
- Student Awards Financial Aid (SAFA) application comes out mid July. Part time studies grant- $1800 for the year if they are making less than 30,000- nothing to do with parental income, never had student not qualify. Will not have to pay anything. Cheque will be sent to them in the mail (Lisa Smiley is SAFA contact).
-Can’t guarantee courses will work as dual credit- but very likely. Student needs to bring TRU transcript to their counsellor for review.
Programs
Trades and Transitions (sd73.bc.ca) (click transitions programs)
-100% dual credit, come to TRU in grade 12 year (ECE, Police and Justice, HCA), can still participate in activities in high school, but here for the year.
-Funded by school district- only first year is paid for and only tuition is funded. Employable right out of high school.
-Meet requirements from grade 11, we promote to grade 10 students, dual credit is toward elective credits in HS.
-Students that do programs, will no longer be eligible for entrance scholarships/awards (Can they still apply for funding in grade 12? to cover other expenses?- Kyri is looking into this)
