5. Canadian Mental Health Association: Niagara

In- person appointments are available. Mental health counsellors support problem solving immediate concerns and crisis management for mental health, addictions, and situation support/counselling. Follow-up services and connections to other resources, such as short-term brief solution-focused counselling sessions, telephone counselling and support with bridging to longer-term resources.

6. Cognitive Behavioural Group (CBT) for Depression/Anxiety

Pregnant and new parents with babies up to 18 months of age, who have been feeling depressed, down or anxious may be eligible to participate in a group-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) program. During this nine-week series you will meet weekly in a virtual group setting with a public health nurse to learn skills, strategies and tools to help manage depression and anxiety. A workbook is provided to help you record your goals and progress. A public health nurse will contact you by text/phone within 2-3 business days to go through a screening form to confirm if the group will meet your needs and has space available before sending you the information to participate.

7. One-Day CBT Study 

McMaster University and Niagara Region Public Health have collaborated to deliver 'Public Health Nurse-Delivered 1-Day CBT-Based Workshops for Postpartum Depression (PPD) Symptoms.’ Study participants across Ontario will be randomly assigned (50/50 chance, like flipping a coin) to participate in a 1-Day CBT-Based Workshop in addition to continuing to receive standard postnatal care or to continue receiving standard postnatal care alone. 8. Life with a Baby (LWAB)- Mental Health Counselling

Offering two types of mental health counselling, group therapy with peer led HOPE groups, and individual counselling with counselling students. Free for LWAB members (membership is also free). For Ontario residents over the age of 18 years.

9. BounceBack

A life-skills program to help new parents struggling with mild-to-moderate depression or anxiety or support adjusting to welcoming a newborn and finding balance in their day-to-day responsibilities.

BounceBack for New Parents receives:

  • 3-6 telephone coaching sessions, which will occur every 2 to 3 weeks
  • self-paced Enjoy Your Baby workbook
  • Access to videos that are available in English, French, Arabic, Farsi, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Punjabi.
  • Referral Required. Self-referral or referral by a health care professional using Online Form. You must have a valid Ontario Health Card number. Once submitted you will be contacted within 5 business days for a phone assessment.

Self-guided self-check test, strategies and resources for managing and preventing depression, as well as tips for friends and family to provide support.

2. Moms Over Matter

A free website that delivers information regarding managing postpartum depression and anxiety.

3. Anxiety Canada

For general mild to moderate anxiety

Self-guided lessons (45 lessons, approximately 10 hours to complete over several weeks). My Anxiety Plan (MAP) is an anxiety management program based on cognitive-behavioural therapy. Modules provide you with practical strategies and tools to manage anxiety.
